Get the Motivation to Stick to your Goals

You can achieve your goalWhen setting goals for yourself, get clear about what you want to achieve and why.  Ask yourself the following questions to uncover your motivation(s) for wanting to reach your goal.  These factors will provide the focus and drive if you waiver from your path.

First, ask yourself: What do I want?  State the goal as SMART – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound.  For example:  I will be a size 12 by Christmas 2012.

Next, ask yourself: What will this get for me or enable me to do?  For example: I will look and feel great in my clothes, I will be healthier and have more energy, I will feel confident attending parties during the Festive Season.

Then, ask yourself:  What will I do to achieve my goal?  For example:  I will exercise for 45 minutes six times per week.  I will plan my meals and eat fresh, healthy food. I will drink two litres of water a day.

Finally – Go ahead and take the actions that you know will move you forward to achieving your goal.  One day at a time.  Habits are formed by repeating actions day in and day out – you simply need to take action and keep taking action until you achieve your outcome.

And if you find yourself wavering from our goal, remind yourself of what achieving it will get for you or enable you to do.

Be focused.

‘Til next time.
